In the summer months Del Mar enjoys private ocean front concerts in historic powerhouse park on Tuesday nights when popular local bands entertain Del Mar Residents.  Just south towards Downtown Del Mar is seagrove park which sits on top of the bluff. During wedding season, many couples choose to tie the knot here in Del Mar while overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  On clear days you can see all the way to Los Angeles as well as the Coronado and Catalina islands miles offshore. There are also a number of impressively well done local cafe's and hangouts in downtown Del Mar.
   

Del Mar becomes a destination for travelers worldwide, mainly in the summer months for the racing season at the famous Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. The electric atmosphere at the racetrack draws big betters, families, and people of all ages looking to have a good time.  Visitors from around the world come year round to play highly respected Torrey Pines Golf Course. Torrey Pines Golf Course became one of the first public courses of all time to host the U.S. Open, which it just did in June 2008.

Carmel Valley is located about three miles east of the Torrey Pines State Beach at Del Mar, and other Del Mar Beaches.  As Carmel Valley was booming with growth in the 1990's, many referred to it as East Del Mar, or North City West.
